Artist Maxi Cohen introduces A Movement in Water

Date: October 20th, 2015
Time: 2pm - 10pm
Location: Lightbox, 339 W 38th St, New York, NY, 10018

Artist Maxi Cohen and The BE Society launch a fundraising event for A Movement in Water, a traveling, multimedia public art installation immersing viewers in the moving majesty of water. The October 20th launch serves as a catalyst for this mobile museum.

Participants will have a sensory experience of A Movement in Water’s inner sanctum intended to shift one’s physiology toward inner peace, and as it travels, world peace.  A Movement in Water’s mission is to instill a greater reverence for water, engendering our stewardship of this precious resource.  Interactive on-site installations, in collaboration with existing organizations and charities, will enlighten children and adults on urgent water issues to encourage creative solutions for social change.

“A Movement in Water creates a sanctuary of peace amidst the frenzy of our cities, where we are disconnected from nature, which tends to disconnect us from ourselves,” says artist Maxi Cohen. “Science Magazine just reported research proving the positive effects that images of waterfalls have on people’s well-being and health. With so many urgent water issues, from ocean acidification to billions of people without clean water, I hope this intimate experience will prompt actions that make a difference.”

The event taking place on October 20th, 2015, from 2pm - 10pm at Lightbox, NYC’s first interactive arts venue, will feature special events. Public and private schools have been invited for a special afternoon session.  The BE Society is sponsoring a 5pm - 6pm meditation, replicating ancient Taoists meditators, sitting with their eyes open before waterfalls.  An evening experiential immersion includes healing sounds by musicians Jarrod Byrne Mayer and Melody Balczon, followed by a silent auction, food and drink by TSalon and William Grant & Sons.

The event aims to raise funds for A Movement in Water, which receives tax-exempt donations through Creative Visions, a 501c3 foundation committed to media for social change. A Movement in Water is a recipient of a Nathan Cummings Foundation seed grant.
